Laura Mercier
What attracts me to this brand, which most fans know for its non-pareil tinted moisturizer and concealers:
Iconic Flawless Face brand philosophy
Unique product development approach: classics-based (vs. seasonal trends)
Customer-focused / customer-led innovation: Laura's A-list roster of fans (Julia Roberts, Madonna) also collaborate with her on product development, most recently an SJP-designed Bonne Minne mini palette, featuring cream-based, water-proof, oil-free coverage
One of the breakthrough products coming to the Philippines shortly is Bonne Minne, a portable makeup palette Mercier created because of Sarah Jessica Parker.
“Laura is best friends with Sarah Jessica; they do everything together,” reveals Sean Stevenson, Laura Mercier Cosmetics’ regional training manager, who flew in from Chicago to launch her fall 2010 Mystique collection at Rustan’s. “We were all sitting at dinner when Sarah Jessica pulls out of her handbag this little compact that she made herself. She took all these cream products we used to make, smashed them down into a palette and said, ‘Laura, I want you to make this.’”
Mercier looked at the palette, which was full of bronzes, creams and highlighters that would give instant radiance to the face, and said, “Oh, my gosh, why do we not have this?” So they went to the lab and made it, christening it Bonne Minne, which is French for “healthy glow.”
Pat McGrath
one of the most renowned artists of our time - Pat McGrath, who collaborated with D&G for their line launched by P&G May 2009 - currently no line of her own quite yet (NYT excerpt below)
The artist’s fame inspired Messrs. Dolce and Gabbana to invite Ms. McGrath, with whom they have worked for years, to interpret their ideas. “She is a legend,” Mr. Gabbana said. “She understands immediately what we want. If we talk about red, she knows exactly which kind of red we’re talking about.” Dahlia, the crimson in the line, which was introduced in Europe in April, is a brash color that might intimidate customers. “Women are scared of bold reds,” Ms. McGrath said, “so we worked on developing a red that has extra moisture in it, to make it easier to wear.”
Ms. McGrath, her champions say, is that rarity: an artist with a commercial sense. Ed Burstell, a former vice president for cosmetics at Bergdorf Goodman and the buying director for Liberty of London, said that following store appearances, Ms. McGrath has been known to dash to the registers, tracking sales. “You don’t get that combination of someone who does 30 shows every season and at the same time understands how to sell on a shop floor,” he said.

In other news, Beyonce is launching her own line of Beyoncé for Déreon tattoos.with airbrush cosmetic company Temptu.
