VOGUE China will celebrate its fifth anniversary with the September 2010 issue. Since launching, from an art perspective, the magazine has managed to meet a hefty production requirement with an Art Director who is equipped to complete the task but has little time to deal creatively with the Editorial Director, the contributing talents or the editors on the staff. It is imperative that VOGUE China remains the leader in the field by setting a standard of excellence giving it the edge over the other magazines and satisfying the readers. Conde Nast has therefore decided to establish and recruit a Creative Director for VOGUE China.

THE POSITION

The Creative Director will work closely with the Editorial Director in initiating and creatively
executing “specials” that solidifies VOGUE China’s premier position. She is also required to initiate projects that strengthen the authority of VOGUE in different areas, e.g. VOGUE events, associations with major brands, launches of major exhibitions in conjunction with the Marketing Department and generally extend the reach of the magazine with a variety of concepts.

The successful candidate will need to mentor editors of VOGUE China, bringing out the curiosity they often do not possess due to a lack of working with qualified professionals during the early stages of their careers. More importantly, the Creative Director has to mentor and groom existing photographers, in order to bring them to a level that is comparable to international standards and to contribute to the growth of the creative world in China.

In addition to attending photographic shoots in China and in overseas to ensure expected quality, the Creative Director has to be willing to completely brief and follow through with all details when commissioning international and local photographers. Internationally this will be in conjunction with the Fashion Director at Large and the International Production Director. The major mission for the successful candidate is to develop a visual style for VOGUE China that
maintains the Vogue standard while giving the magazine a voice that clearly represents the Chinese culture.
